Bay Records Label Releases
Bay Records is a folk music record label that flourished (kinda, sorta) from 1972 through 1980 in the San Francisco Bay Area. These CDs are culled from their catalog:
Folk Music: The Bay Years, Vol. 1
Cuts from various Bay records with several previously unreleased tracks as well as copious notes by Michael Cogan in which he tells all! This compilation features tracks from Jody Stecher, Mitch Greenhill, John Herald, Laurie Lewis, Otis Pierce, Jane Voss, Carol McComb, Mayne Smith, Frankie Armstrong, and many more.
The Good Ol' Persons
This is a re-issue of the original LP which came out in 1977. The group consisted of Kathy Kallick (bass, vocals), Barbara Mendelsohn (banjo, hammered dulcimer, vocals), Laurie Lewis (fiddle, mandolin, vocal), Paul Shelasky (mandolin, fiddle, vocal) and Dorothy Baxter (guitar) with several guests and other instruments. An eclectic mix of bluegrass, old-timey and jazz.
Kenny Hall and the Sweets Mill String Band
Recorded in three long sessions in the spring of 1972, this CD includes most of what was originally released in two separate volumes. The band includes Kenny Hall on mandolin, Jim Ringer on guitar, Ron Tinkler on banjo, Harry Liedstrand on fiddle, and Cary Lung on mandolin. Larry Hanks plays the Jew's harp on several tunes.
